This township is entirely within the boundaries of the 2011-2012 Coquelle Trails Project. It includes Woodens Butte, Fourmile Creek and New River in the Port Orford Historical District. This survey was completed in 1857, 1879 and 1897, and mapped in 1879, 1880, and 1899 (Murphy & Murphy 1857; Wright 1878a; Wright 1878c; Wright 1879; Cathcart 1897).
