Student Website Competition Announced

Two Oregon Non-Profits to Award Nearly $5,000 in Prizes

February 18, 2002 - Representatives of Oregon Websites and Watersheds Project, Inc. (ORWW) and Friends of Paul Bunyan Foundation, Inc. (FOPB) today announced a competition to reward the State’s best school websites for the 2001-2002 school year. The contest is open to all Oregon public schools.

Bob Zybach, ORWW Program Manager, said that cash awards range from $100 to $1000 and will be distributed between winning Grade Schools, Middle Schools, and High Schools.
Websites will be judged by a panel of experts based on homepage design, website functionality, community outreach, local sciences content, and archive plan. Awards will be announced and distributed in June.

Mike Miller, FOPB Director, said that a primary purpose of the competition is to reward student excellence in designing, building, and using Internet communications to enhance educational activities. Another purpose is to bring attention to the FOPB Grant Program, which provides funding for “scientific and educational projects related to forestry and resource education in Oregon”.

ORWW and FOPB are non-profit educational organizations based in Oregon. Additional details about the competition and an application form can be found at: http://www.ORWW.org/Awards/2001_2002/Main.html
